According to the Boating Accident Statistical Report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Florida has the largest number of registered vessels of any state in our country, with over 960,000 registered recreational vessels. According to the 2019 Recreational Boating Statistics Report from the U.S. Coast Guard, alcohol use was a leading contributor in fatal boating accidents and was named as the leading factor in 23% of accidents. [2] In addition to alcohol use, operator distraction, improper lookout, lack of experience, and excessive speed round out the other four primary contributing factors in fatal boating accidents.
